Meaning
A tree grows on a mountain, slowly and in full view: the hexagram is gradual progress. Legge's Judgment pictures it as the marriage of a young woman, made with all the proper steps, "and the good fortune (attending it)", with advantage in being firm and correct. The line texts follow a wild goose by stages, from the shore to the rock, the dry plain, a tree, the hill and at last the heights, its feathers used in the dance.
Human Design places gate 53 from 15°07′30″ to 20°45′ Cancer, in the Root centre, one of the four motors, which the system ties to pressure and drive. Its channel, which the school names Maturation, runs to gate 42 in the Sacral; the pair is in the Sensing circuit of the Collective group.
The engine names the gate Beginnings. With its hexagram, we read it in our own words as the pressure to start something and the patience to let it unfold by stages. The goose does not leap from the shore to the heights; it stops at each place on the way. Joined to gate 42, increase, the gate can be read as a beginning that becomes growth only if it is followed through, the start of a cycle that the other end of the channel completes. The tradition's emphasis is on the order of the steps, not on their speed.
Opposite gate 53 on the wheel is gate 54, the younger sister who marries, and the two are also a pair in the I Ching's own order: the marriage made slowly and properly faces the marriage made in haste. The school names the Right Angle Cross of Penetration from 53 and 54 with 51 and 57.

Gate 53 covers 5°37′30″ of the zodiac, from 15°07′30″ to 20°45′ Cancer, the 30th gate counting from gate 41. In 2026 the Sun passes through it from 7 July to 13 July, and within a day of those dates in other years. Each of its six lines covers 56′15″:

When the Personality Sun is in this gate, the school's table names the cross by the angle of the profile: the Right Angle Cross of Penetration (53/54 | 51/57), the Juxtaposition Cross of Beginnings (53/54 | 42/32) or the Left Angle Cross of Cycles (53/54 | 42/32). falseWhat the record shows: The wheel is Ra Uru Hu's arrangement: Shao Yong's 11th-century circle of the 64, rotated so that hexagram 41 starts at 2° Aquarius. No Chinese source ties a hexagram to degrees of the zodiac.

The Root centre, where gate 53 sits, is an organ or gland, and the gate tells something about the body.
unverifiedWhat the record shows: The centre's name is a name. The schools' pairing of the centres with organs and glands, taken from the chakra books of the 1920s, has no physiological correspondence that anyone has shown, and we never read a gate or a centre as the body or its health.
