Meaning
Two mountains, one on the other: stillness doubled. The hexagram is keeping still, and its Judgment begins with an image of rest that the tradition has quoted ever since: resting "like that of the back", in Legge's English, the part of the body that does not move with desire, so that one loses consciousness of self. The Image has the superior man keep his thoughts within his own position. The lines climb a figure from the toes to the jaws, each brought to rest in turn.
Human Design places gate 52 from 3°52′30″ to 9°30′ Cancer, in the Root centre, one of the four motors, which the system ties to pressure and drive. Its channel, which the school names Concentration, runs to gate 9 in the Sacral; the pair is in the Understanding circuit of the Collective group.
The engine names the gate Stillness. We read it, in our own words, as pressure held still: the ability to stay in one place and keep at one thing, not from inertia but from steadiness. The mountain's stillness in the I Ching is a discipline, knowing when to stop as well as when to go, and its top line is the stillness that has become wholehearted. Joined to gate 9, the small restraint, the gate can be read as the stillness that makes concentration possible, the quiet underneath the attention. The body in the hexagram's text is an image of rest; nothing here is about the body itself.
Opposite gate 52 on the wheel is gate 58, the joyous lake: stillness faces delight. The school names the Right Angle Cross of Service from 52 and 58 with 17 and 18.

Gate 52 covers 5°37′30″ of the zodiac, from 3°52′30″ to 9°30′ Cancer, the 28th gate counting from gate 41. In 2026 the Sun passes through it from 25 June to 1 July, and within a day of those dates in other years. Each of its six lines covers 56′15″:

falseWhat the record shows: The wheel is Ra Uru Hu's arrangement: Shao Yong's 11th-century circle of the 64, rotated so that hexagram 41 starts at 2° Aquarius. No Chinese source ties a hexagram to degrees of the zodiac.

The Root centre, where gate 52 sits, is an organ or gland, and the gate tells something about the body.
unverifiedWhat the record shows: The centre's name is a name. The schools' pairing of the centres with organs and glands, taken from the chakra books of the 1920s, has no physiological correspondence that anyone has shown, and we never read a gate or a centre as the body or its health.
