Meaning
Two broken lines have risen at the bottom of the figure and four whole lines withdraw before them: the tradition reads it as retreat, the strong stepping back while the weak advance. It is not flight. The Judgment still finds progress in it, and "to a small extent it will (still) be advantageous to be firm and correct", in Legge's English. The Image sees heaven drawing away from the mountain, and the superior man keeping small people at a distance through his own reserve rather than with hostility.
Human Design places gate 33 from 7°37′30″ to 13°15′ Leo, in the Throat centre, which the system ties to expression and action. Its channel, which the school names The Prodigal, runs to gate 13 in the G centre; the pair is in the Sensing circuit of the Collective group.
The engine names the gate Privacy. We read it, in our own words, as the step back that lets something be kept: withdrawing from the crowd to remember, to think over, to hold one's counsel. The hexagram's retreat is timely and dignified, the line texts praising the one who withdraws well and in good time. Joined to gate 13, fellowship and listening, the gate can be read as the second half of a conversation: hearing others, then going quiet, and later putting what was heard into words.
Opposite gate 33 on the wheel is gate 19, drawing near. Retreat and approach face each other, and the school names the Right Angle Cross of the Four Ways from 33 and 19 with 24 and 44. In a chart the gate is a position; it does not mean that anyone keeps secrets or should.

Gate 33 covers 5°37′30″ of the zodiac, from 7°37′30″ to 13°15′ Leo, the 34th gate counting from gate 41. In 2026 the Sun passes through it from 30 July to 5 August, and within a day of those dates in other years. Each of its six lines covers 56′15″:

falseWhat the record shows: The wheel is Ra Uru Hu's arrangement: Shao Yong's 11th-century circle of the 64, rotated so that hexagram 41 starts at 2° Aquarius. No Chinese source ties a hexagram to degrees of the zodiac.

The Throat centre, where gate 33 sits, is an organ or gland, and the gate tells something about the body.
unverifiedWhat the record shows: The centre's name is a name. The schools' pairing of the centres with organs and glands, taken from the chakra books of the 1920s, has no physiological correspondence that anyone has shown, and we never read a gate or a centre as the body or its health.
