Meaning
Here the trigrams are in their natural places, heaven above and earth below, and that is the trouble: each moves away from the other and they do not meet. The tradition reads it as stagnation, a time when the small advance and the great withdraw. Legge's Judgment speaks of "the want of good understanding" between people, unfavourable to the firm course of the superior man; the Image has him hold back his virtue and stay out of the way of the dangers of the time.
Human Design places gate 12 from 22°37′30″ to 28°15′ Gemini, in the Throat centre, which it ties to expression and action. Its channel, which the school names Openness, runs to gate 22 in the Solar Plexus, the motor the system ties to emotion; the pair is in the Knowing circuit of the Individual group. Gate 22's own name is also Openness.
The engine calls the gate Caution, and the hexagram supports the word well. We read it, in our own words, as restraint in speech: the voice that does not speak into a time when it will not be heard. In the hexagram this is not silence for its own sake; the superior man keeps his virtue for a better moment. With its channel to the Solar Plexus the gate can be read as words that depend on a mood, which say most when the feeling behind them is ready.
Opposite gate 12 on the wheel is gate 11, peace, and the two are also a pair in the I Ching's own order. The book's line texts move the blockage towards its end, and its last line overturns it; the tradition treats stagnation as a stage, not a state. A gate describes a place in a chart, not a temperament.

Gate 12 covers 5°37′30″ of the zodiac, from 22°37′30″ to 28°15′ Gemini, the 26th gate counting from gate 41. In 2026 the Sun passes through it from 13 June to 19 June, and within a day of those dates in other years. Each of its six lines covers 56′15″:

falseWhat the record shows: The wheel is Ra Uru Hu's arrangement: Shao Yong's 11th-century circle of the 64, rotated so that hexagram 41 starts at 2° Aquarius. No Chinese source ties a hexagram to degrees of the zodiac.

The Throat centre, where gate 12 sits, is an organ or gland, and the gate tells something about the body.
unverifiedWhat the record shows: The centre's name is a name. The schools' pairing of the centres with organs and glands, taken from the chakra books of the 1920s, has no physiological correspondence that anyone has shown, and we never read a gate or a centre as the body or its health.
