Borrowed spectacles on a dog and a child

The image

Someone has left their glasses on the table, and a child has found them: one pair perched on the child's own nose, another balanced on the family dog, who puts up with it patiently. The picture is a household game, the kind that ends in laughter and a search for the missing glasses. Neither wearer sees any better through lenses ground for another's eyes.

Our research has not seen the 1925 card wording for this degree; the line here was checked against Jones's 1953 text and Rudhyar's 1973 lines, and it replaced a line very close to Rudhyar's on 2026-10-10.

Meaning

The spectacles in this picture are borrowed, and that is the whole point. To look through someone else's lenses is to see the world blurred or bent in the shape of their sight, which can be funny, instructive or both. Our keyword is "Borrowed vision", and our keynote says seeing through another's lens is both play and learning. A placement here can be read as curiosity about other viewpoints, a gift for imitation that is affectionate rather than mocking, and the humility to notice that every view is ground for particular eyes. That a dog joins in keeps the image light.

Behind Sagittarius 21, in Lynda Hill's terms its Karmic Condition, is Sagittarius 20, workers cutting through ice; ahead, her Quest Degree, is Sagittarius 22, a laundry kept by a Chinese family. The three can be read as hard work breaking open what has frozen, play with borrowed eyes, and patient, unshowy work that makes things clean again.

Opposite stands Gemini 21, workers marching in a demonstration, our "Mass pressure". As a reading aid, the pair joins two ways of changing how things look: numbers and noise in the street pushing for new conditions, and a quiet game at home that lets a child see, for a moment, as someone else does.

In a chart

A planet or point anywhere from Sagittarius 20°00′ up to, but not including, Sagittarius 21°00′ takes this degree. The rule is to count the degree a position is in from one, so a Moon at Sagittarius 20°08′ reads Sagittarius 21, and so does one at Sagittarius 20°59′. Close to either edge, a small change in the birth time or the ephemeris moves a placement into the next image: into Sagittarius 22 after Sagittarius 20°59′, or back into Sagittarius 20 before Sagittarius 20°00′. That is why the chart shows the minute beside the degree. Gives the degree a symbol line, a commentary, a one-word keyword and a positive and a negative reading. We quote none of it.

Dane Rudhyar (1973)

Rewords the image and adds a keynote and a commentary of his own, numbering the degrees as Jones did. In copyright to 2068; not used, and the place he gives the degree in his own structure is not shown.

Lynda Hill (1995, 2004)

Uses the symbols as an oracle, with her own commentary, and reads each degree beside the one before and the one after. Her rule and her two names are cited here; her text is not used.

Jones's own study group serves the 1953 image and keyword of a degree in its oracle, without commentary, on purpose.
