The image
A sunny day, a garden or a beach, and toddlers in wide cotton bonnets that shade their faces and necks. Someone has dressed them with care before letting them out to play. The picture is of the children and their bonnets, sweet and slightly old-fashioned; it is described as an image of a summer day.

Meaning
Read as a symbol, the bonnets are protection given lightly. The children are not kept indoors; they are let out into the sun, with something on their heads so they can enjoy it. Our keyword is "Little ones outdoors", and our keynote says the smallest children are dressed for a day in the open. A placement here can be read as a gentle, protective care for what is young or new, a liking for simple outdoor pleasures, and an instinct to prepare others for exposure without stopping them from going out. The image is cheerful. Its care is the kind that makes play possible.
Lynda Hill's rule frames Sagittarius 18 with the Karmic Condition that precedes it and the Quest Degree that comes next. Before Sagittarius 18 is Sagittarius 17, Easter worship at dawn; after it is Sagittarius 19, pelicans moving to a new place to live. One reading of the run: a community greeting the sunrise, little ones shaded from the sun at its height, and birds leaving one stretch of shore for another.
The degree opposite is Gemini 18, two men talking together in Chinese, our "Common language". As a reading aid, the two pictures share an easy familiarity: grown men at ease in the language they share, and small children at ease in the sun because someone has thought of them.

A planet or point anywhere from Sagittarius 17°00′ up to, but not including, Sagittarius 18°00′ takes this degree. The rule is to count the degree a position is in from one, so a Moon at Sagittarius 17°17′ reads Sagittarius 18, and so does one at Sagittarius 17°59′. Close to either edge, a small change in the birth time or the ephemeris moves a placement into the next image: into Sagittarius 19 after Sagittarius 17°59′, or back into Sagittarius 17 before Sagittarius 17°00′. That is why the chart shows the minute beside the degree. In EsoTerrier's Sabian chart the Sun, the Moon and the Ascendant are read first, then the Midheaven and the planets; each placement in Sagittarius 18 carries the image, keyword and keynote above, with Sagittarius 17, Sagittarius 19 and Gemini 18 beside it.

- Gives the degree a symbol line, a commentary, a one-word keyword and a positive and a negative reading. We quote none of it.
- Dane Rudhyar (1973)
- Rewords the image and adds a keynote and a commentary of his own, numbering the degrees as Jones did. In copyright to 2068; not used, and the place he gives the degree in his own structure is not shown.
- Lynda Hill (1995, 2004)
- Uses the symbols as an oracle, with her own commentary, and reads each degree beside the one before and the one after. Her rule and her two names are cited here; her text is not used.
- The Sabian Assembly
- Jones's own study group serves the 1953 image and keyword of a degree in its oracle, without commentary, on purpose.
