The image
The door is shut, the step is swept, and on it a small blue bird has landed. It may hop about, look in, or fly off in a moment. The bluebird has long stood for happiness in song and story, and the picture sets it in the most ordinary place: not in a far forest, but at one's own front door. It is an image, and it promises nothing to anyone.

Meaning
Read as a symbol, the bluebird at the door is happiness that comes home rather than happiness sought far away. It is small and easily missed, and it is right there. Our keyword is "Happiness at the threshold", and our keynote says happiness waits at the threshold of the home. A placement here can be read as a gift for noticing contentment in ordinary places, a warmth toward home and its comings and goings, and a cheerful temperament. The doorstep matters to the image: it is the place between inside and outside, where what comes from the world meets what is kept within.
In Lynda Hill's reading of Sagittarius 24, the newcomers of Sagittarius 23 are its Karmic Condition and the boy of Sagittarius 25, riding his hobby-horse, is its Quest Degree. The run moves from people reaching a new home, to a bird at a home's front step, to a child at play rehearsing adventures yet to come.
Across the wheel is Gemini 24, where children skate across the ice, our "Play on a hard surface". As a reading aid, the pair sets two kinds of plain delight together: children moving freely over what has frozen, and a bird resting lightly on a stone step.

A planet or point anywhere from Sagittarius 23°00′ up to, but not including, Sagittarius 24°00′ takes this degree. The rule is to count the degree a position is in from one, so a Moon at Sagittarius 23°59′ reads Sagittarius 24, and so does one at Sagittarius 23°59′. Close to either edge, a small change in the birth time or the ephemeris moves a placement into the next image: into Sagittarius 25 after Sagittarius 23°59′, or back into Sagittarius 23 before Sagittarius 23°00′. That is why the chart shows the minute beside the degree.
