The image
The horse is a stick with a painted head and perhaps a wool mane, and the rider is a round-cheeked small boy galloping across the room or the garden. In his imagination he is a knight, a cowboy or a cavalry captain; in fact he is going round the lawn. The picture is affectionate and comic, and it takes the game as seriously as the child does.
A line very close to Rudhyar's 1973 version stood in our table until 2026-10-10.
Meaning
Read as a symbol, the hobby-horse is adventure in rehearsal. The child is not yet riding real horses, but the game teaches the posture, the daring and the imagination that real riding needs. Our keyword is "Rehearsed adventure", and our keynote says play practises a courage that life asks for later. A placement here can be read as enthusiasm and imagination, a readiness to try on roles, and a sense that play is preparation as well as pleasure. The boy's roundness adds comfort to the picture: this is adventure from a safe and well-fed home, and none the worse for that.
The opposite degree is Gemini 25, someone cutting back palm fronds, our "Tending growth". As a reading aid, the two pictures look at growth from two ends: the grown-up work of pruning so that a living thing stays shapely and strong, and a child's games, which do their own growing.
Lynda Hill sets Sagittarius 25 between its Karmic Condition, Sagittarius 24 and the bluebird on the doorstep, and its Quest Degree, Sagittarius 26, where someone carries the colours. One way to read the three: happiness found at home, courage rehearsed in play, and courage taken up in earnest by the one who holds the standard.

A planet or point anywhere from Sagittarius 24°00′ up to, but not including, Sagittarius 25°00′ takes this degree. The rule is to count the degree a position is in from one, so a Moon at Sagittarius 24°36′ reads Sagittarius 25, and so does one at Sagittarius 24°58′. Close to either edge, a small change in the birth time or the ephemeris moves a placement into the next image: into Sagittarius 26 after Sagittarius 24°59′, or back into Sagittarius 24 before Sagittarius 24°00′. That is why the chart shows the minute beside the degree. In EsoTerrier's Sabian chart the Sun, the Moon and the Ascendant are read first, then the Midheaven and the planets; each placement in Sagittarius 25 carries the image, keyword and keynote above, with Sagittarius 24, Sagittarius 26 and Gemini 25 beside it.

- Rewords the image and adds a keynote and a commentary of his own, numbering the degrees as Jones did. In copyright to 2068; not used, and the place he gives the degree in his own structure is not shown.
- Lynda Hill (1995, 2004)
- Uses the symbols as an oracle, with her own commentary, and reads each degree beside the one before and the one after. Her rule and her two names are cited here; her text is not used.
