The image
The god of love from the old paintings, small, winged and carrying his bow, stands at a closed door and raps on it. He does not fly in through the window or shoot from a hiding place; he knocks, and waits. The picture leaves us outside with him. We do not know who is inside, or whether the door opens.
This degree's line in our table followed the 1925 card almost word for word until 2026-10-10; our own line, after the image Elsie Wheeler described to Marc Edmund Jones, now stands in its place.
Meaning
Read as a symbol, Cupid at the door is feeling asking permission. Love here is not a wound or a sudden capture; it comes up the path and knocks, so that whoever is inside has a choice. Our keyword is "Love's approach", and our keynote says feeling arrives and asks to be let in. A placement here can be read as openness to affection, a sensitivity to the moment when something tender comes near, and the question of whether to answer. It keeps to the knock and the pause after it.
The degree opposite is Gemini 7, a well of the old kind, our "Ancestral source", drawing on a depth older than ourselves. As a reading aid, the two pictures turn on what comes to us from outside: water drawn up by old means from below, and feeling that comes knocking from beyond the door.
Under Lynda Hill's rule, Cupid's knock at Sagittarius 7 is framed by a Karmic Condition on one side and a Quest Degree on the other. Before Sagittarius 7 is Sagittarius 6, a cricket match in progress; after it is Sagittarius 8, something taking shape within the rocks. The pictures move from a long, public contest, to a quiet knock at a private door, to a formation growing out of sight inside stone.

A planet or point anywhere from Sagittarius 6°00′ up to, but not including, Sagittarius 7°00′ takes this degree. The rule is to count the degree a position is in from one, so a Moon at Sagittarius 6°30′ reads Sagittarius 7, and so does one at Sagittarius 6°58′. Close to either edge, a small change in the birth time or the ephemeris moves a placement into the next image: into Sagittarius 8 after Sagittarius 6°59′, or back into Sagittarius 6 before Sagittarius 6°00′. That is why the chart shows the minute beside the degree. In EsoTerrier's Sabian chart the Sun, the Moon and the Ascendant are read first, then the Midheaven and the planets; each placement in Sagittarius 7 carries the image, keyword and keynote above, with Sagittarius 6, Sagittarius 8 and Gemini 7 beside it.

- Rewords the image and adds a keynote and a commentary of his own, numbering the degrees as Jones did. In copyright to 2068; not used, and the place he gives the degree in his own structure is not shown.
- Lynda Hill (1995, 2004)
- Uses the symbols as an oracle, with her own commentary, and reads each degree beside the one before and the one after. Her rule and her two names are cited here; her text is not used.
- The Sabian Assembly
- Jones's own study group serves the 1953 image and keyword of a degree in its oracle, without commentary, on purpose.
