The image
Someone on the ground looks up and sees an aeroplane that does not seem to move. It may be flying into a headwind, or so high that its speed cannot be judged; either way it hangs in the sky like a fixed mark. The picture is calm. There is no noise in the line, no route and no pilot, only the craft held aloft and the open air around it.
Elsie Wheeler described the picture in 1925, and Marc Edmund Jones wrote it down; the wording on this page is our own, and it replaced a line very near Rudhyar's 1973 version on 2026-10-10.
Meaning
Read as a symbol, the hovering aeroplane gives a point of view rather than a journey. From up there the roads and fields look small and ordered, and problems that fill the ground lose their weight. Our keyword is "Elevated perspective", and our keynote says freedom of mind rises above the ground's concerns. A placement here can be read as a talent for stepping back, for seeing the whole pattern, and for staying steady while things below are busy. There is a second reading in the stillness: a mind so high and calm that it is no longer going anywhere, and may need to come down to work with what it sees.
Libra 27 sits, in Lynda Hill's terms, between a Karmic Condition and a Quest Degree. Before this degree, Libra 26 shows the eagle and the dove changing places; after it, Libra 28 shows a man standing among influences that keep growing brighter. The three can be followed from a change of form in the air, to stillness high above, to a light gathering around a person on the ground.
Opposite is Aries 27, a chance that slipped away and is lived again in the mind, our "Won back in the mind". As a reading aid, the pair shows two powers of the mind: rising above what is happening, and returning to what has already happened in order to recover it.

A planet or point anywhere from Libra 26°00′ up to, but not including, Libra 27°00′ takes this degree. The rule is to count the degree a position is in from one, so a Moon at Libra 26°50′ reads Libra 27, and so does one at Libra 26°59′. Close to either edge, a small change in the birth time or the ephemeris moves a placement into the next image: into Libra 28 after Libra 26°59′, or back into Libra 26 before Libra 26°00′. That is why the chart shows the minute beside the degree. In EsoTerrier's Sabian chart the Sun, the Moon and the Ascendant are read first, then the Midheaven and the planets; each placement in Libra 27 carries the image, keyword and keynote above, with Libra 26, Libra 28 and Aries 27 beside it.

- Rewords the image and adds a keynote and a commentary of his own, numbering the degrees as Jones did. In copyright to 2068; not used, and the place he gives the degree in his own structure is not shown.
- Lynda Hill (1995, 2004)
- Uses the symbols as an oracle, with her own commentary, and reads each degree beside the one before and the one after. Her rule and her two names are cited here; her text is not used.
