The image
This is one of the less literal pictures in the set. There is a man, and there are his ideals, and they have crystallised: grown hard, clear and many-faceted, like a mineral forming in a cave. The image does not show what the ideals are. It shows their state, the change from something hoped for and vague into something with edges and structure.
Until 2026-10-10 our table carried this degree nearly in the wording of the 1925 card; the present line is our own, after Wheeler's picture as Jones took it down.
Meaning
The crystal can be read in two ways at once. It is beautiful and clear, and it is also fixed: once an ideal has set, it no longer flows. Our keyword is "Crystallised ideals", and our keynote says that what was aspired to becomes definite enough to be built. On that reading the degree marks the useful moment when a dream acquires a plan, a principle becomes a rule one can follow, or a vision a design someone else can read. A placement here can be read as a talent for giving form to aims, with the quieter question of what rigidity might take from the ideal itself.
Lynda Hill would place a Karmic Condition just behind Libra 6 and a Quest Degree just ahead of it. Before Libra 6 stands Libra 5, the teacher who speaks from inner understanding; after it stands Libra 7, where grain is thrown to hens while hawks are kept at bay. The line of images runs from inner knowledge spoken aloud, to that knowledge set into firm ideals, to the plain daily work of protecting what depends on us.
Opposite is Aries 6, a square lit strongly on one side only, our "Partial illumination". Read beside it as an aid, a solid shape seen from one lit face meets an ideal that has become solid and many-faceted, so that both images ask how much of a thing can be seen at once.
In a chart
A planet or point anywhere from Libra 5°00′ up to, but not including, Libra 6°00′ takes this degree. The rule is to count the degree a position is in from one, so a Moon at Libra 5°53′ reads Libra 6, and so does one at Libra 5°59′. Close to either edge, a small change in the birth time or the ephemeris moves a placement into the next image: into Libra 7 after Libra 5°59′, or back into Libra 5 before Libra 5°00′. That is why the chart shows the minute beside the degree. In EsoTerrier's Sabian chart the Sun, the Moon and the Ascendant are read first, then the Midheaven and the planets; each placement in Libra 6 carries the image, keyword and keynote above, with Libra 5, Libra 7 and Aries 6 beside it.

- Gives the degree a symbol line, a commentary, a one-word keyword and a positive and a negative reading. We quote none of it.
- Dane Rudhyar (1973)
- Rewords the image and adds a keynote and a commentary of his own, numbering the degrees as Jones did. In copyright to 2068; not used, and the place he gives the degree in his own structure is not shown.
- Lynda Hill (1995, 2004)
- Uses the symbols as an oracle, with her own commentary, and reads each degree beside the one before and the one after. Her rule and her two names are cited here; her text is not used.
- The Sabian Assembly
- Jones's own study group serves the 1953 image and keyword of a degree in its oracle, without commentary, on purpose.
