The image
The divers are equipped and deliberate: suits, lines, air, a boat waiting above. They go down through blue water into darker water, where the light fades and the weight of the sea presses in. The picture follows them downward and does not say what they are looking for, only that they have trained for this and mean to return. It is an image of skill and nerve, not of danger to anyone.
Meaning
Read as a symbol, the descent of the divers is the choice to go deep. It is not a fall; it is planned and equipped, and the point of it is the return. Our keyword is "Descent into depth", and our keynote says prepared people go down into pressure to bring something back. A placement here can be read as a readiness to explore what lies beneath the surface of a subject, a feeling or a relationship, with the patience to prepare first. The image honours both the courage and the discipline: depth is reached by those who know how to come up again.
Lynda Hill treats the degree just before Scorpio 7 as its Karmic Condition and the degree just after as its Quest Degree. Scorpio 6, prospectors racing toward a gold strike, lies before; Scorpio 8, moonlight lying across a lake, lies after. The three images can be followed from a rush over the land, to a careful descent beneath the sea, to a still surface that gives back the light.
Opposite is Taurus 7, the Samaritan woman, our "Truth in the ordinary", an outsider at a well who receives what matters most. As a reading aid, the pair joins two encounters with deep water: a woman drawing it up in daylight at an everyday task, and divers going down into it to find what is hidden there.

A planet or point anywhere from Scorpio 6°00′ up to, but not including, Scorpio 7°00′ takes this degree. The rule is to count the degree a position is in from one, so a Moon at Scorpio 6°00′ reads Scorpio 7, and so does one at Scorpio 6°58′. Close to either edge, a small change in the birth time or the ephemeris moves a placement into the next image: into Scorpio 8 after Scorpio 6°59′, or back into Scorpio 6 before Scorpio 6°00′. That is why the chart shows the minute beside the degree. - Rewords the image and adds a keynote and a commentary of his own, numbering the degrees as Jones did. In copyright to 2068; not used, and the place he gives the degree in his own structure is not shown.
- Lynda Hill (1995, 2004)
- Uses the symbols as an oracle, with her own commentary, and reads each degree beside the one before and the one after. Her rule and her two names are cited here; her text is not used.
- The Sabian Assembly
- Jones's own study group serves the 1953 image and keyword of a degree in its oracle, without commentary, on purpose.
