The image
The picture gives only a woman from Samaria. The name recalls the Gospel story of a woman who comes to a well to draw water, an ordinary chore, and meets a stranger who speaks with her although custom kept their peoples apart. The image itself shows no well and no stranger; it names her and leaves the story to the reader.
Meaning
The tradition reads the image as truth arriving in an everyday place to someone others overlook. The woman is not a priest or a scholar but an outsider at a daily task, and that is where what matters finds her. Our keyword is Truth in the ordinary, and our keynote reads it in one sentence: an outsider at an everyday task becomes the one to receive what matters most. In a chart a placement here can be read as a place where understanding comes through ordinary work or through people at the edges, and where the humble setting is part of the meaning. We read the picture as a symbol only, with the respect owed to the story it recalls.
Lynda Hill names the degree before its Karmic Condition and the degree after its Quest Degree. Before Taurus 7 comes Taurus 6, workers raising a bridge over a ravine; after it comes Taurus 8, a sleigh standing where there is no snow anywhere. Read so, the bridge across a divide is followed by a meeting across one, and the meeting by an image of something waiting for its season. Opposite is Scorpio 7, divers going down into the deep ocean; as a reading aid it sets a descent in search of what is hidden beside a gift that comes to the surface of ordinary life.

A planet or point anywhere from Taurus 6°00′ up to, but not including, Taurus 7°00′ takes this degree. The rule is to count the degree a position is in from one, so a Moon at Taurus 6°00′ reads Taurus 7, and so does one at Taurus 6°58′. Close to either edge, a small change in the birth time or the ephemeris moves a placement into the next image: into Taurus 8 after Taurus 6°59′, or back into Taurus 6 before Taurus 6°00′. That is why the chart shows the minute beside the degree. - Lynda Hill (1995, 2004)
- Uses the symbols as an oracle, with her own commentary, and reads each degree beside the one before and the one after. Her rule and her two names are cited here; her text is not used.
