The image

Drums, brass, polished buttons and boots striking the road together: the band comes down the street, and people on the pavement feel the beat in their chests. The players are soldiers, and they march as they play, so that music and movement are one thing. The picture is loud and bright, a parade rather than a battle.

This degree's line in our table followed the 1925 card nearly word for word until 2026-10-10; it now carries our own line after the image Elsie Wheeler described.

Meaning

Read as a symbol, the marching band shows how rhythm makes a group. Each player is skilled alone, but here the skill serves the beat, and the beat moves everyone. Our keyword is "Collective rhythm", and our keynote says discipline and noise carry a group forward in step. A placement here can be read as an enjoyment of shared effort and order, a feel for timing, and an understanding of how ceremony and music lift morale. It can also be read as a question about conformity: in step with the band, one is also carried by it.

Opposite this degree is Taurus 27, a Native woman offering beads she has made, our "Heritage for sale", the past's crafts turned into exchange. As a reading aid, the two pictures contrast a quiet, single maker at the roadside with a loud, many-handed performance marching along it.

Lynda Hill sets Scorpio 27 between its Karmic Condition, one degree back, and its Quest Degree, one degree on. Before Scorpio 27 is Scorpio 26, a people making camp; after it is Scorpio 28, the fairy king nearing his realm. The pictures can be followed from a community settling for the night, to an army moving to music, to a subtle ruler returning home.

A planet or point anywhere from Scorpio 26°00′ up to, but not including, Scorpio 27°00′ takes this degree. The rule is to count the degree a position is in from one, so a Moon at Scorpio 26°20′ reads Scorpio 27, and so does one at Scorpio 26°59′. Close to either edge, a small change in the birth time or the ephemeris moves a placement into the next image: into Scorpio 28 after Scorpio 26°59′, or back into Scorpio 26 before Scorpio 26°00′. That is why the chart shows the minute beside the degree. Dane Rudhyar (1973)

Rewords the image and adds a keynote and a commentary of his own, numbering the degrees as Jones did. In copyright to 2068; not used, and the place he gives the degree in his own structure is not shown.

Lynda Hill (1995, 2004)

Uses the symbols as an oracle, with her own commentary, and reads each degree beside the one before and the one after. Her rule and her two names are cited here; her text is not used.
