The image
Night, a lake without wind, and the moon above it. The light lies on the water in a long pale path that seems to lead from the near shore toward the far one. Nothing moves; the surface is so calm that the reflection is almost as clear as the moon itself. The picture is one of the gentlest in this part of the set.
Meaning
Read as a symbol, the moonlit lake is about receptivity. The water does nothing but lie still, and in lying still it holds and returns the light. Our keyword is "Reflected peace", and our keynote says a still surface returns the light it receives. A placement here can be read as calm, a reflective temperament, and the gift of mirroring others back to themselves without distortion. It can also be read as a reminder that clarity often needs quiet: a ruffled surface breaks the light into fragments. After the divers of the previous degree went down into the dark, this image rests on the surface and lets the light come to it.
Scorpio 8 sits, in Lynda Hill's terms, between a Karmic Condition and a Quest Degree. They are Scorpio 7, the divers descending into the deep sea, and Scorpio 9, where steady hands mend teeth. The run turns from depth, to stillness, to precise and practical repair.
The degree opposite is Taurus 8, a sleigh with no snow anywhere, our "Out of season". As a reading aid, the pair compares a thing waiting uselessly in the wrong conditions with a lake whose conditions are just right for what it does.

A planet or point anywhere from Scorpio 7°00′ up to, but not including, Scorpio 8°00′ takes this degree. The rule is to count the degree a position is in from one, so a Moon at Scorpio 7°37′ reads Scorpio 8, and so does one at Scorpio 7°57′. Close to either edge, a small change in the birth time or the ephemeris moves a placement into the next image: into Scorpio 9 after Scorpio 7°59′, or back into Scorpio 7 before Scorpio 7°00′. That is why the chart shows the minute beside the degree.
