The image
Lodges are raised, fires are lit, horses are watered and the camp takes shape. The picture is of a people travelling together who know how to turn open ground into a home within an hour, and to pack it away again when it is time to move on. We describe it with respect and read it as a symbol. The picture comes from a single day's sitting in San Diego in 1925, the day Wheeler and Jones recorded Scorpio 26.
Meaning
Read as a symbol, making camp is about home as an activity rather than a place. The camp is not permanent, but it is fully lived in, and it depends on everyone knowing their part. Our keyword is "Making camp", and our keynote says a people on the move sets up a place to live for now. A placement here can be read as adaptability and resourcefulness, a gift for creating order and comfort wherever one finds oneself, and a sense that belonging travels with the people one belongs to. The image honours a way of life that values movement and does not mistake it for rootlessness.
By Lynda Hill's rule, Scorpio 26 has a Karmic Condition in the degree behind it and a Quest Degree in the degree ahead. Here the degree before is Scorpio 25, the X-ray that sees through solid things, and the degree after is Scorpio 27, an army band marching. From a look inside structures, the pictures move to a community building its own temporary one, and then to many people moving forward in step.
The degree opposite is Taurus 26, a Spanish man singing beneath the window of the woman he loves, our "Courtship as art". As a reading aid, the pair joins two kinds of tradition carried in practice: a song offered through an old form, and a camp raised by long-learned ways.

A planet or point anywhere from Scorpio 25°00′ up to, but not including, Scorpio 26°00′ takes this degree. The rule is to count the degree a position is in from one, so a Moon at Scorpio 25°43′ reads Scorpio 26, and so does one at Scorpio 25°57′. Close to either edge, a small change in the birth time or the ephemeris moves a placement into the next image: into Scorpio 27 after Scorpio 25°59′, or back into Scorpio 25 before Scorpio 25°00′. That is why the chart shows the minute beside the degree. - Uses the symbols as an oracle, with her own commentary, and reads each degree beside the one before and the one after. Her rule and her two names are cited here; her text is not used.
