The image
The chief sits in judgement and the mother stands before him, asking for her children's lives. The picture is grave: authority on one side, a parent's plea on the other, and the outcome unknown. We describe it with respect for the people it shows.
Our old table carried the symbol of Capricorn 22 at this degree, one of seven numbering errors found against the Sabian Assembly's list, so this image was missing from our chart until 2026-10-10.
Meaning
Read as a symbol, the mother's plea is advocacy in its purest form. She has no power of her own in the picture except her love and her voice, and she uses both. Our keyword is "Advocacy for the young", and our keynote says love confronts power on behalf of those who cannot. A placement here can be read as courage in speaking up for others, especially the vulnerable, a readiness to face authority directly, and a deep protectiveness. The image honours the plea itself; it does not depend on whether the chief agrees.
Lynda Hill treats the degree just before Scorpio 29 as its Karmic Condition and the degree just after as its Quest Degree. The first is Scorpio 28, the fairy king nearing his realm; the second, Scorpio 30, a clown in motley on Halloween night. The three pictures move from a ruler of dreams, to a mother before an earthly ruler, to a night of disguise when fear is turned into laughter.
The degree opposite is Taurus 29, two shoemakers working side by side, our "Practical partnership". As a reading aid, the two images make a quiet contrast: steady, humble work done together on what carries people, and a single urgent plea for the young lives in her keeping.

A planet or point anywhere from Scorpio 28°00′ up to, but not including, Scorpio 29°00′ takes this degree. The rule is to count the degree a position is in from one, so a Moon at Scorpio 28°34′ reads Scorpio 29, and so does one at Scorpio 28°57′. Close to either edge, a small change in the birth time or the ephemeris moves a placement into the next image: into Scorpio 30 after Scorpio 28°59′, or back into Scorpio 28 before Scorpio 28°00′. That is why the chart shows the minute beside the degree. - Rewords the image and adds a keynote and a commentary of his own, numbering the degrees as Jones did. In copyright to 2068; not used, and the place he gives the degree in his own structure is not shown.
- Lynda Hill (1995, 2004)
- Uses the symbols as an oracle, with her own commentary, and reads each degree beside the one before and the one after. Her rule and her two names are cited here; her text is not used.
