Meaning
Richmond's Twos are unions, and his Two of Hearts is the plainest of them: “Meeting of dear friends or lovers”, “A union of hearts”, and, under Uranus, two people joined in their work. The table describes encounters rather than a temperament, as all his tables do.
Our reading keeps the pairing and turns it towards character. People born under the card are read as most at home in a close bond and willing to give a great deal to keep it; the tradition's caution is that a pair can swallow the person in it, and the card's growth is in staying whole within a union rather than disappearing into it.
In the spreads
Its one birthday, 29 December, falls under Capricorn, so its ruling card is the Saturn card of its path, the Two of Diamonds. Like the Ace of Hearts, the Queen and King of Spades and the Joker, it has no other day.
What sets it apart is its partner. Under Richmond's dealing rule the Two of Hearts and the Ace of Clubs swap places at every pass: in the natural order the Two is second and the Ace is fourteenth, and in the Life Spread it is the other way round, the Two in the Venus row, Neptune column. Each is therefore the other's karma card in both directions, and Camp gives neither an Environment or Displacement card. Its Moon card is the Nine of Spades, and its path begins with the King of Hearts.

Birthdays and ruling cards
The ruling card is the card of the life path in the place of the Sun sign's ruling planet; Leo takes the birth card itself and Scorpio two cards.

How the schools read it
- Olney H. Richmond (1893)
- An emblem of solar value 2 and spirit value 20, read through its suit, love and friendship, and its number, a union: one meaning under each of the seven planets, most of them events (p. 78).
- Randall and Campbell, Lein, Camp (1947 onward)
- Read the birth card as character rather than events. Camp's line adds the life path, the karma cards and the yearly spreads used on this page, and gives the card a nickname, which we do not use. Camp counts it among the Family of Seven, with no Environment or Displacement cards.

The Joker is the rarest birth card, because it has only one birthday.
