Queen of Diamonds: taste, generosity and a feel for value

Meaning

Richmond's Queens are women of their suit, and the Queen of Diamonds is “A warm-hearted, charitable lady” who loves luxury. Much of the entry describes her means, which we leave out; and, as with all his court cards, she is a figure in a reading, not the sex of the person whose card it is.

We read the card as taste, generosity and a feel for value. The tradition sees its people as enjoying beautiful things and having a good eye for quality, generous hosts and friends who share what they enjoy; balancing enjoyment with care for the future is read as bringing out their natural good judgement.

In the spreads

The Queen of Diamonds is the first card of the Saturn row, at its right-hand end. Its Moon card is the Ace of Diamonds, at the far end of the Jupiter row above it, and its path runs along the Saturn row: the Five of Hearts, the Three of Clubs, the Three of Spades, the Nine of Hearts.

It gives to the Three of Diamonds and receives from the Nine of Diamonds. Its eight birthdays, from 15 January to 1 August, have no cusp; a 1 August birth, under Leo, has the Queen herself as ruling card, and a 3 July birth, under Cancer, its Moon card.

The ruling card is the card of the life path in the place of the Sun sign's ruling planet; Leo takes the birth card itself and Scorpio two cards.

An emblem of solar value 38 and spirit value 24, read through its suit, the harvest gathered in, and its number, a woman of the suit: one meaning under each of the seven planets, most of them events (p. 150).

Randall and Campbell, Lein, Camp (1947 onward)

Read the birth card as character rather than events. Camp's line adds the life path, the karma cards and the yearly spreads used on this page, and gives the card a nickname, which we do not use.
