Ten of Diamonds: plenty, in the centre of the spread

Meaning

Tens are success on all sides in Richmond's tables, and the Ten of Diamonds is success that arrives at once, “coming suddenly”. His word for what arrives belongs to gain and is left out here; in his practice the line described a turn in the sitter's affairs, and we read no such turn into anyone's life.

We read the card as plenty and the question of what to do with it. The tradition sees its people as having strong drive and a talent for enterprise, fond of building something substantial and generous with what they gain; their challenge is read as looking past having more to what makes them content.

In the spreads

The Ten of Diamonds sits exactly in the middle of the Life Spread's seven rows of seven: the Jupiter row and the Jupiter column, a double Jupiter card. Its Moon card is the Ten of Hearts, beside it to the right, and its path runs on through the Eight of Spades, the Ace of Hearts and the Ace of Diamonds into the Saturn row.

It gives to the Queen of Clubs and receives from the Queen of Spades. Its nine birthdays have no cusp date, and a 3 August birth, under Leo, has the Ten itself as ruling card.

Life path and karma cards

Read from the Life Spread: the card before the Ten of Diamonds, then the ten after it, the order running on from the crown line back to the top right. The names of the places are Camp's, used descriptively.

Birthdays and ruling cards

The ruling card is the card of the life path in the place of the Sun sign's ruling planet; Leo takes the birth card itself and Scorpio two cards.

How the schools read it

Olney H. Richmond (1893)

An emblem of solar value 36 and spirit value 04, read through its suit, the harvest gathered in, and its number, success: one meaning under each of the seven planets, most of them events (p. 146).

Randall and Campbell, Lein, Camp (1947 onward)

Read the birth card as character rather than events. Camp's line adds the life path, the karma cards and the yearly spreads used on this page, and gives the card a nickname, which we do not use.
