The image
The picture is a public show. A pageant, the kind of costumed procession towns staged in the 1920s for anniversaries, festivals and history days, is under way: people dressed as figures from the past or from legend, floats perhaps, a crowd along the route. The line gives only the pageant and the costumes. Everyone in it is someone else for the day, and everyone watching knows who is underneath.
Meaning
Read as the tradition reads its images, the pageant is a symbol of a community putting itself on show. Our keyword is Collective spectacle, and our keynote says that a community displays itself to itself in procession. That last phrase is the heart of it. The audience and the players are the same town, so the show is a mirror held up to everyone at once. One way to read a placement in this degree is as a love of shared celebration, of dressing up and taking part, and as a feeling for the stories a group tells about itself. It can also be read for its question: which parts of a shared past are chosen for the parade, and which are left at home.
Lynda Hill's rule reads the degree behind a placement as background and the degree ahead as heading. Behind this one lies Leo 14, the human soul waiting for a chance to express itself; ahead lies Leo 16, the sun coming out as soon as the storm has passed. By her rule the soul that waited to be expressed finds its outlet in public display, and the bright, noisy procession gives way to the clear light that follows a storm. As a reading aid, the opposite degree, Aquarius 15, shows a pair of lovebirds perched on a fence: a companionship of two, quiet and private, beside this degree's companionship of a whole town in costume.

A planet or point anywhere from Leo 14°00′ up to, but not including, Leo 15°00′ takes this degree. The rule is to count the degree a position is in from one, so a Moon at Leo 14°26′ reads Leo 15, and so does one at Leo 14°59′. Close to either edge, a small change in the birth time or the ephemeris moves a placement into the next image: into Leo 16 after Leo 14°59′, or back into Leo 14 before Leo 14°00′. That is why the chart shows the minute beside the degree. - Uses the symbols as an oracle, with her own commentary, and reads each degree beside the one before and the one after. Her rule and her two names are cited here; her text is not used.
