Meaning

萃 means to gather, to collect, as grass grows thick in one place. Water collects over the earth into a lake, and the two strong lines in the fourth and fifth places are the centre the yielding lines gather round. The statement of the hexagram sets the gathering at the king's ancestral temple: it is good to see the great person, great offerings bring good fortune, and it is good to have somewhere to go. The three bands

The Shadow band, Crowding, is the first line, 乃亂乃萃: now confusion, now gathering, a crowd drawn together with no centre to hold it. The Gift band, Readiness, is the Image, 君子以除戎器, 戒不虞: the noble person keeps their gear in order to meet the unforeseen. Where many gather, something unexpected always comes. The Siddhi band, Hearth, is the statement's 王假有廟: the king comes to his temple, the centre to which the people come of their own accord.

The three bands describe a gathering held badly, held prepared, and held by warmth.
