Free I Ching birth hexagram

Your I Ching birth hexagram is cast from your lunar birth date and hour by the time rule of the Plum Blossom method: the lunar year, month and day give the upper trigram, and with the double hour added, the lower trigram and the line that moves. Without a birth time the noon hour is used.

Enter your birth date, and the time if you know it, to see your birth hexagram by the Plum Blossom time rule: the hexagram of your lunar date and hour, its moving line, the hexagram it becomes and the hexagram within it, each numbered in the received order.

Your birth details

The local time where you were born, as on a long-form birth certificate. Without a birth time the noon hour is used, and the chart says so.

About I Ching birth hexagram

Your I Ching birth hexagram is one of the 64 figures of the Book of Changes: born on 19 January 1989, the sample person has 20, 觀 Guān, Looking Out, with its fourth line moving, so that it becomes 12, 否 Pǐ, Blockage, with the book's text in Legge's 1882 translation.

The hexagrams are the Zhouyi's, of the late 9th century BCE; the birth cast is the Plum Blossom method's time rule, a Ming-period text attributed to Shao Yong (1011 to 1077), applied to the lunar date and hour.

How we compute it

The time rule of the Plum Blossom method (梅花易數, book 1), a Ming text attributed to Shao Yong: the lunar year, month and day give the upper trigram, and with the double hour the lower one and the moving line. A birth hexagram is this later method's idea, not the Zhouyi's. The place adds only its time zone.
