The image
A single figure, an angel, holds a harp against its body. The instrument is not shown being played; it is carried, ready, as if the music were part of the messenger. Its stillness is part of the picture: music held in reserve.
Marc Edmund Jones recorded the picture from the clairvoyant Elsie Wheeler in 1925, by his account without either of them knowing which degree was on the card.

An angel in the old sense is a messenger, and a harp is an instrument of order, strings tuned in proportion to one another. We read the image as a moment when something fits: a solution, a feeling or a piece of work that seems to come from outside effort and is right when it comes. One way to see the degree is in the experience of being given something rather than earning it, and in the gratitude that follows. The image can also be read as an ideal of harmony that ordinary life never quite matches. The tradition reads the picture as a symbol and does not promise that any such grace arrives; it describes the shape of the experience.
On Lynda Hill's reading, the previous degree supplies the backdrop and the next one the direction of travel. Before this one is Capricorn 8, birds singing inside a house, so music moves from the home to the heavens. After it comes Capricorn 10, an albatross eating from someone's hand, where a creature of the far sky comes down to meet a person.
As a reading aid, the opposite degree is Cancer 9, a tiny girl with no clothes on reaching for a fish in the water. Set against the angel, she is grace from below: innocent reaching rather than descending music.

A planet or point anywhere from Capricorn 8°00′ up to, but not including, Capricorn 9°00′ takes this degree. The rule is to count the degree a position is in from one, so a Moon at Capricorn 8°14′ reads Capricorn 9, and so does one at Capricorn 8°59′. Close to either edge, a small change in the birth time or the ephemeris moves a placement into the next image: into Capricorn 10 after Capricorn 8°59′, or back into Capricorn 8 before Capricorn 8°00′. That is why the chart shows the minute beside the degree.
