The image
The image is a forest in deep winter, every branch and twig coated with white frost, the ground hard and the air still. Nothing moves and nothing grows; the trees are dormant, holding their life inside until spring. The frost turns the bare wood into something delicate and bright. The picture comes from a single day's sitting in San Diego in 1925, the day Wheeler and Jones recorded Gemini 26.
Meaning
Read as a symbol, the frosted wood is dormancy with its own beauty. Life has withdrawn from the surface, but it has not gone, and the stillness reveals shapes that summer leaves hide. The tradition would read a placement here as a place where a person values quiet, pause and inner gathering, or finds a clear, austere beauty in times when little seems to happen. The image is not bleak; it is bright, and it waits.
Lynda Hill calls the degree before a placement its Karmic Condition and the degree after its Quest Degree. Before Gemini 26 is Gemini 25, someone cutting back palm fronds; after it is Gemini 27, a Romani woman walking out from the trees. Read so, pruning gives way to a whole wood at rest, and the still forest looks ahead to a figure stepping out of it into the open. The degree opposite, Sagittarius 26, is someone carrying the colours; as a reading aid it sets a flag carried forward in procession beside a wood standing silent and still.

A planet or point anywhere from Gemini 25°00′ up to, but not including, Gemini 26°00′ takes this degree. The rule is to count the degree a position is in from one, so a Moon at Gemini 25°13′ reads Gemini 26, and so does one at Gemini 25°57′. Close to either edge, a small change in the birth time or the ephemeris moves a placement into the next image: into Gemini 27 after Gemini 25°59′, or back into Gemini 25 before Gemini 25°00′. That is why the chart shows the minute beside the degree.
