The image
The picture is a body of industrial workers who have stopped work together: the machines idle, the workers outside the gates. No industry, place or grievance is named, and the outcome is not shown. The image is of the moment of refusal, when many people withhold the labour that keeps things running so that the conditions of that labour can be changed.
Meaning
The tradition reads the strike as the power of the many who do the work. Alone a worker has little say; together, by stopping, they make the importance of their work felt. Our keyword is Collective protest, and our keynote reads it in one sentence: those who do the work refuse until the terms change. In a chart one way to read a placement here is as a place where a person stands with others for fair treatment, joins a common cause, or learns that refusing can be a form of strength. The picture takes no side in any particular dispute; it shows solidarity as an image.
Lynda Hill names the degree before its Karmic Condition and the degree after its Quest Degree. The one before is Gemini 7, a well of the traditional kind from older days; the one after is Gemini 9, arrows packed into a quiver. By her rule a patient old way of drawing what is needed gives way to a modern struggle over work, and the struggle looks ahead to means stored and ready for a purpose. Opposite stands Sagittarius 8, something taking shape within the rocks; as a reading aid it sets slow, silent formation beside sudden, noisy stoppage.
In a chart
A planet or point anywhere from Gemini 7°00′ up to, but not including, Gemini 8°00′ takes this degree. The rule is to count the degree a position is in from one, so a Moon at Gemini 7°07′ reads Gemini 8, and so does one at Gemini 7°57′. Close to either edge, a small change in the birth time or the ephemeris moves a placement into the next image: into Gemini 9 after Gemini 7°59′, or back into Gemini 7 before Gemini 7°00′. That is why the chart shows the minute beside the degree. - Rewords the image and adds a keynote and a commentary of his own, numbering the degrees as Jones did. In copyright to 2068; not used, and the place he gives the degree in his own structure is not shown.
- Lynda Hill (1995, 2004)
- Uses the symbols as an oracle, with her own commentary, and reads each degree beside the one before and the one after. Her rule and her two names are cited here; her text is not used.
