The image
The image is a periodical of strong, radical views: pages of argument, protest and calls for change, printed to be passed from hand to hand. No cause, country or editor is named, and the picture does not say whether its ideas are right. It shows the medium and its purpose, words set out to shake readers loose from what they take for granted.
Meaning
Read as a symbol, the radical magazine is thought used as pressure. Its writers do not want to describe the world calmly; they want readers to see what is wrong and to want it changed. Our keyword is Agitation for change, and our keynote reads it in one line: ideas are printed to stir people out of acceptance. The tradition would read a placement here as a place where a person questions the established view, writes or speaks to provoke, or is drawn to ideas that challenge the comfortable. The image passes no judgement on the ideas; it shows the impulse to stir.
Lynda Hill calls the degree before the Karmic Condition and the degree after the Quest Degree. Before Gemini 5 is Gemini 4, mistletoe hung beside holly; after it is Gemini 6, a rig boring down for oil. Read so, a love of custom gives way to an attack on custom, and the agitation in print leads to an image of drilling deep for a hidden store of power. Opposite stands Sagittarius 5, an old owl perched high in a tree; as a reading aid it sets quiet, watchful wisdom beside loud, urgent argument.
In a chart
A planet or point anywhere from Gemini 4°00′ up to, but not including, Gemini 5°00′ takes this degree. The rule is to count the degree a position is in from one, so a Moon at Gemini 4°16′ reads Gemini 5, and so does one at Gemini 4°57′. Close to either edge, a small change in the birth time or the ephemeris moves a placement into the next image: into Gemini 6 after Gemini 4°59′, or back into Gemini 4 before Gemini 4°00′. That is why the chart shows the minute beside the degree. - Dane Rudhyar (1973)
- Rewords the image and adds a keynote and a commentary of his own, numbering the degrees as Jones did. In copyright to 2068; not used, and the place he gives the degree in his own structure is not shown.
- Lynda Hill (1995, 2004)
- Uses the symbols as an oracle, with her own commentary, and reads each degree beside the one before and the one after. Her rule and her two names are cited here; her text is not used.
- The Sabian Assembly
- Jones's own study group serves the 1953 image and keyword of a degree in its oracle, without commentary, on purpose.
