Meaning
The fourth cell collects every 4 and carries the name the Russian tradition gives it, Health (здоровье), with the descriptor "potential of health" on some sites. Alexandrov's first book put "a health scheme" in its subtitle. Russian sites read the count as a forecast about the body; we do not repeat that. The school's reading that we keep is the milder one: physical energy and stamina, a person's relationship to effort.
In our own words, the count describes how a person relates to physical effort and risk: energy built through habit, an ordinary reserve, a solid one that supports confidence, an unusual drive, or a reserve easily overestimated. That is all it describes.
Every count, in our words
The tradition's scale for a cell runs from none to overload. Our reading of each count of fours follows, with the share of dates that have it, over every day of the twentieth century and of the twenty-first.
- 0. Physical energy read as something built through habit rather than given; routine matters more than for most. Dates: 39.5 percent of 1900 to 1999, 41.6 percent of 2000 to 2099.
- 1. An ordinary reserve of physical energy, best not pushed to its limits. Dates: 41.3 percent of 1900 to 1999, 40.4 percent of 2000 to 2099.
- 2. A solid reserve of physical energy that supports confidence. Dates: 15.5 percent of 1900 to 1999, 14.5 percent of 2000 to 2099.
- 3. Unusual physical drive, with a matching taste for risk. Dates: 3.3 percent of 1900 to 1999, 3.1 percent of 2000 to 2099.
- 4. An exceptional reserve of physical energy, easily overestimated. Dates: 0.4 percent of 1900 to 1999, 0.4 percent of 2000 to 2099.
- 5. Physicality that sets the tone of the whole personality. Dates: under 0.1 percent of 1900 to 1999, under 0.1 percent of 2000 to 2099.
- 6 or more. Overload: a body that wants to be in constant use. Dates: no date of 1900 to 1999, no date of 2000 to 2099.
How often the cell fills
Fours are scarce. A date has one only from its day, its month, a working number or a year that contains a 4, such as 1948. The average is 0.84 for the twentieth century and 0.80 for the twenty-first; 39.5 and 41.6 percent of dates leave the cell empty, and one 4 is the commonest count in both. Three or more fall to under 4 in 100 dates, and no date in the two centuries holds more than five. An empty cell 4 is therefore ordinary, and the tradition's milder reading of it, energy built through habit, describes four people in ten.
Why the name stays
We kept the name because every source uses it and a reader who meets the square elsewhere will meet it under that name; removing it would hide what the tradition says. Keeping it as a name means labelling it every time and never letting it do a name's work as a claim: the cell is called Health in the way a house in astrology is called the house of health, and the count is read as the school's picture of physical energy. The same rule holds for the Luck cell and the money column.
What this page leaves out
Alexandrov's school teaches transitions that touch this cell (22 to 4 and 4 to 22); we record them as the school's doctrine and compute none of them. Nothing here compares two people's squares. Births from 2000 are read on the classic formula, with the "+19" variant as a labelled option.
Health (cell 4), Luck (cell 7) and Money and everyday life (the column 4-5-6) are the tradition's names, kept as names: nothing in the square is a medical or financial statement or forecast, and nothing on this page is medical or financial advice.
Correspondences
Each item with how it stands: “sourced” is in the work cited, “our construction” is EsoTerrier’s own, and “disputed” means the sources disagree.
- Cell name (Alexandrov school)
- Health (здоровье); the one-word English name is ours; kept as the tradition's name, not a reading of health sourced
- What the count is read as
- physical energy and stamina sourced
- The bands
- none, weak, normal, strong but unstable, strong, maximal, overload, for 0 to 6 or more: the tradition's scale sourced
- Readings of each count (EsoTerrier)
- Written fresh in our own words; the Russian sites' readings repeat Alexandrov's books and are not translated our construction
- Western birth chart (Phillips, as summarised)
- The same digit in a grid of the date's digits only, drawn 3 6 9 / 2 5 8 / 1 4 7, with no working numbers sourced
- Transitions (Alexandrov school)
- 22 to 4 and 4 to 22: digits said to move between cells; the school's doctrine, not computed sourced
How the schools read it
- Alexandrov's school and the Russian tools
- Count the fours and read the count on the scale from none to overload; the cell is Health.
- Afisha and a few others
- The same cell, drawn with 1 2 3 across the top instead of 1 4 7.
- Practitioners of "+19"
- For births from 2000, the third working number is the first plus 19, which changes the digits counted. A convention, offered by us only as a labelled option.
- Templeton and Phillips
- The Western birth chart counts only the date's digits and reads a line when its three cells are all full or all empty.
- EsoTerrier
- The count describes how a person relates to physical effort and risk: energy built through habit, an ordinary reserve, a solid one that supports confidence, an unusual drive, or a reserve easily overestimated. That is all it describes.
Claims about it
-
The meaning of cell 4 goes back to Pythagoras.
falseWhat the record shows: Pythagoras wrote nothing, and no early source mentions a square of birth-date digits. The cell and its name come from the Russian tradition that Alexandrov's school fixed, in print from 1999.
-
The nine cell names come from antiquity.
falseWhat the record shows: The names character, energy, interest, health, logic, labour, luck, duty and memory are the Russian tradition as Alexandrov's school fixed them; calculators print them without saying whose they are.
-
Cell 4 shows the state of a person's health or constitution.
unverifiedWhat the record shows: "Health" is the tradition's name for the cell and we keep it as a name. Nothing in the square predicts illness, injury or the length of a life.
-
Digits move into and out of cell 4 by fixed transitions (22 to 4 and 4 to 22).
unverifiedWhat the record shows: A doctrine of Alexandrov's school, taught as a way of reading and strengthening the square, with nothing that tests it. We compute no transitions.
-
The "+19" rule is Alexandrov's own correction for births from 2000.
falseWhat the record shows: His provision for this century, as his followers summarise it, concerns how the lines are read. "+19" is a practitioner convention, and we offer it only as a labelled option.
