Meaning
The 全書's dialogue begins:
巨門屬水、金。北斗第二星也，為陰精之星，化氣為暗。
In our translation: Ju Men belongs to water and metal. It is the second star of the Northern Dipper, a star of yin essence, and its epithet is darkness.
The lines under 希夷先生 give it a task in two worlds: 「在天，司品萬物。在數則掌執是非」, in heaven it sorts the ten thousand things, in the numbers it holds right and wrong. It brings a person words, doubt and argument; its nature is 「面是背非」, yes to the face and no behind the back, and it is slow to get on with kin. It needs a bright palace to be at peace: with the Sun it is half good and half bad, the emperor restrains it and 祿存 relieves it.
The 形性賦 calls it 「是非之曜」, the light of right and wrong, and gives it a kinder face in its strong palaces: 「敦厚溫良」, honest, warm and mild.
The name means "giant gate". Our chart keeps that, and our gloss reads: speech, analysis and scrutiny; questions everything, may stir debate. It is a star of the questioning mind on these pages, not of the law.
The name
巨門 is the Sui 五行大義's name for the second star of the Northern Dipper, 天璇 (Merak); the Daoist Northern Dipper scripture repeats it. The chart borrows the name and observes nothing. Chinese feng shui gives it to the number two of the nine stars, the star Nine Star Ki calls Two Black Earth.
On the board
Ju Men is three palaces ahead of Tian Fu. It shares a palace with Tian Tong in 丑 or 未, the Sun in 寅 or 申 and Tian Ji in 卯 or 酉, and stands alone in the other six. It is brilliant (廟) in 寅, 卯, 申 and 酉, weak (不) in 丑 and 未 and fallen (陷) in 辰 and 戌. In the common table it takes 化祿 in a 辛 year, 化權 in a 癸 year and 化忌 in a 丁 year. It is the Life Master (命主) when the Life Palace is in 丑 or 亥.
What this page leaves out
The dialogue goes through the twelve palaces with Ju Men and finds trouble in nearly all of them: quarrels among kin, partings, disputes and losses. We note the register and repeat none of it.
