Meaning
The 全書's dialogue begins:
武曲北斗第六星，屬金……主於人，性剛果決，有喜有怒
In our translation: Wu Qu, the sixth star of the Northern Dipper, belongs to metal ... in a person it gives a firm and decisive nature, with joy and anger both.
The text's picture is of an exacting, hard-edged temperament. The 形性賦 gives it 「至要至緊之操，心性果決」, the most exacting and tightly held of bearings, decisive at heart. It likes 祿存 as its partner in office and has Tian Fu and Tian Xiang as its deputies, and the dialogue warns against its company with Tan Lang and Po Jun.
Its epithet in the juan 2 list is 財, the character for goods and possessions, and the text makes it master of the 財帛 palace, which our chart labels Possessions. On these pages that palace is a life area, the place the tradition reads a person's attitude to what they own.
Our chart calls it the Warrior, and our gloss reads: decisive, disciplined and results-driven; a practical head for resources.
The name
武曲 is one of the seven names the Sui-dynasty 五行大義 quotes for the stars of the Northern Dipper, and the one it gives the sixth star, 開陽 (Mizar). The Daoist Northern Dipper scripture repeats the name. The chart borrows it and observes nothing: Wu Qu is placed four palaces behind Zi Wei by counting. Chinese feng shui gives the same name to the number six of the nine stars, the star Nine Star Ki calls Six White Metal.
On the board
Wu Qu shares a palace with Tian Fu in 子 or 午, Tan Lang in 丑 or 未, Tian Xiang in 寅 or 申, Qi Sha in 卯 or 酉 and Po Jun in 巳 or 亥, and stands alone in 辰 and 戌. It is brilliant (廟) in 丑, 辰, 未 and 戌 and is weak or fallen nowhere; neutral in 巳 and 亥. In the common table it takes 化祿 in a 己 year, 化權 in a 庚 year, 化科 in a 甲 year and 化忌 in a 壬 year. It is the Life Master (命主) when the Life Palace is in 巳 or 未.
