A man whose gifts spill out of his hands

The image

A man stands with his hands full and gifts still coming, more than he can carry, so that some fall from his grasp. The picture gives no giver and no occasion; it shows only the surplus and the man trying to hold it. The gifts are not described, which leaves them open: abilities, chances, things handed to him by others.

Meaning

Read as a symbol, overflowing gifts are capacity that exceeds use. A person may have more talent, energy or opportunity than one life can take in, and the excess has to be shared, given away or let go. Our keyword is Overflowing talent, and our keynote reads it in one line: capacity exceeds what one person can use; something must be shared or lost. The tradition would read a placement here as a place of plenty that brings its own question: what to do with what cannot be held. The image does not count the gifts or say they bring anything; it shows hands that are too full.

Lynda Hill reads the degree before as background, the Karmic Condition, and the degree after as direction, the Quest Degree. Here the one before is Aries 25, one promise that holds two, and the one after is Aries 27, a chance that slipped away and is lived again in the mind. By that rule a double pledge leads to more gifts than can be held, and what falls from the hands leads to the mind's work of recovering a missed chance. Opposite, Libra 26 shows an eagle turning into a great white dove and the dove back into an eagle; as a reading aid it sets power and peace exchanging places beside gifts that change hands.

In a chart

A planet or point anywhere from Aries 25°00′ up to, but not including, Aries 26°00′ takes this degree. The rule is to count the degree a position is in from one, so a Moon at Aries 25°13′ reads Aries 26, and so does one at Aries 25°57′. Close to either edge, a small change in the birth time or the ephemeris moves a placement into the next image: into Aries 27 after Aries 25°59′, or back into Aries 25 before Aries 25°00′. That is why the chart shows the minute beside the degree. Gives the degree a symbol line, a commentary, a one-word keyword and a positive and a negative reading. We quote none of it.

Dane Rudhyar (1973)

Rewords the image and adds a keynote and a commentary of his own, numbering the degrees as Jones did. In copyright to 2068; not used, and the place he gives the degree in his own structure is not shown.

Lynda Hill (1995, 2004)

Uses the symbols as an oracle, with her own commentary, and reads each degree beside the one before and the one after. Her rule and her two names are cited here; her text is not used.

Jones's own study group serves the 1953 image and keyword of a degree in its oracle, without commentary, on purpose.
